Experience Calgary Track and Field at Track Attack Summer Camp

Track Attack is designed to be fun for kids while instilling confidence though the fundamentals of track and field. We offer athletes an opportunity to learn and build upon basic track and field skills like hurdles, shot put, high jump and sprint starts among many others. We play a ton of games mixed with daily track workouts as well as strength, flexibility, and balance components.

Sprints

Sprints, encompassing the 100m, 200m, and 400m dash, can often be the highlight of Calgary track and field competitions. These events, characterized by a burst of speed from start to finish, showcase the incredible acceleration and stamina of athletes. 

Hurdles

The hurdles events, including the 110m for men and 400m for both genders, add a layer of complexity to raw speed by introducing barriers that athletes must clear. These events require speed, rhythm, and precision. Calgary track and field celebrates hurdlers, who combine speed with skill to overcome obstacles on the track and in life.

Relays

Relays, particularly the 4x100m and 4x400m, are a highlight of Calgary track and field competitions, embodying teamwork and camaraderie. These events require seamless baton exchanges and strategic pacing, showcasing the collective effort of teams. The excitement of relay races often captures the collective anticipation of spectators, making it a favorite event in Calgary.

Middle and Long Distance Running

Moving from the explosive energy of sprints and relays, middle and long-distance events like the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10000m test the stamina and strategic racing of athletes. These races, blend endurance with tactical pacing, and are a testament to the athletes’ perseverance.

Jumps and Throws

Field events in Calgary, including the high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, and the throws (javelin, discus, hammer, and shot put), highlight the versatility and technical skill of Calgary’s athletes. These events require a combination of strength, agility, and precision, offering a diverse event that complements the track races. 

Combined Events

The heptathlon and decathlon are the ultimate tests of versatility in track and field, challenging athletes across a range of events. Calgary’s decathletes and heptathletes train across multiple disciplines to compete in these multi-event challenges. The heptathlon is a seven-event contest, which awards points for each event to the participants and the one with the most points wins. The competitors contest the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m on day one and compete in the long jump, javelin throw and 800m on day two. The decathlon by contrast is a 10-event contest. On day one. the men compete in the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m while on day two, the events are 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500m.
